Propagation of Ornamental Plants

Phayao University is engaged in the propagation of ornamental plants to support the conservation of plant species, research and development of new varieties, and promote the use of ornamental plants in various areas using a variety of propagation techniques.

Propagation Techniques
  • Seed Propagation: This is a simple and low-cost method, which involves collecting seeds from quality plants and sowing them in suitable soil.
  • Cutting: This method uses branches or parts of the plant that are cut and planted in the soil to develop roots and create new plants.
  • Grafting: This technique involves creating new plants from branches that have roots in the soil, ensuring that roots develop before planting.
  • Tissue Culture: This is the most modern technique used to create plants from specific cells or tissues, allowing for rapid production of plant varieties.
Benefits of Propagating Ornamental Plants
  • Conservation of Plant Species: Helps in the conservation of plant species that are at risk of extinction.
  • Increased Availability of Ornamental Plants: Meets the demand of the market and consumers.
  • Development of New Varieties: Promotes research and development of ornamental plant varieties with special characteristics, such as disease resistance and weather adaptability.
